In recent days, a new trend called “Milking cucumber” has emerged on TikTok.

The “pickle juice squeezing” trend is extremely popular on TikTok.

Specifically, the girl behind the TikTok account Basically Perkfect has posted a video tutorial on how to… rub cucumber to reduce bitterness before eating.

Tips and tricks have become familiar to Vietnamese people but turn out to be something new to many, many internet users. The evidence is that the video of Basically Perkfect has attracted nearly 112,000 likes and the majority of 2700 comments say: Now they know this!

Why Does Rubbing Cucumber Make It Less Bitter?

According to the website LifeHacker, cucumbers contain a compound called cucurbitacin, which gives them a bitter taste. This compound is primarily found in the skin and ends of the cucumber.

To reduce the bitterness, you can peel off the skin of the cucumber. However, the skin of this fruit actually contains more nutrients.

To remedy the situation, trim off the stem end of the cucumber, rub it until no more white foam is produced – by doing this, the cucurbitacin substance will be reduced.

Not only found in cucumbers, the bitter compound also appears in zucchini, watermelon, and beets.
